Every person's body has connective tissue that wrap around their bones, muscles, and organs. This connective tissue is called fascia. Additionally, fascia is literally a web-like net that covers the entire body in multiple layers from head to toe. The fascia gives the body its shape, form, and structure. Everything conforms to the fascia.

Because fascia tends to be a bit more plastic than elastic in nature, it tends to hold its shape longer than its muscle counterpart. As tension inhabits the body during different occasions, i.e. poor posture, abnormal tension, trauma, or injury for more than a few months, it will be firmly held in place by the fascia web.

Due to the aging process and inactivity, fascia tends to shorten, dry out, and become gummy. Fascia thickness can result in distortion, dysfunction, and pain with the postural structure, transmitting misalignment messages in many directions. Fortunately, because the fascia has plastic qualities, connective tissue disorders can be reversed and repaired by skillful manual therapy. Appropriate manipulation can soften, lengthen, and virtually bring life back into the fascia, thus restoring a renewed energetic functionality.

Kinesis Myofascial Integration (KMI) is a series of twelve sessions of bodywork. KMI is designed to loosen, lengthen, and realign the fascia web thus allowing pain relief, more efficient movement, and improved postural alignment. The slower, deeper myofascial work is more effective and more permanent than traditional massage.

The goal of KMI is to free and reposition the fascia web, allowing new structural alignment to occur, and introduce new movement patterns to be sure that this new way of being in the body can be maintained. Releasing long term patterns of strain allows your true structure to emerge.
